Jason Sorgi

 

Jason is the President and Head Karate Instructor for Katsu Dojo.  Jason graduated in the top five of his class from the University of Florida with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering.  He is a fourth-degree black belt in Shito-Ryu and is a certified National Referee in the USA National Karate-Do Federation. Jason is the State Karate Director for the Florida Sunshine State Games, which is sponsored by the State of Florida each year.  You can visit the Sunshine State Games website at www.flasports.com. Jason has been featured on the Gainesville ABC television station for the positive difference he has made in so many peoples lives through teaching karate.

 

David Kellenberger

David is the Vice President and Director of Katsu Dojo's Nutrition and Wellness Department.  He graduated with honors from the University of Florida with a B.S. in Food Science and Human Nutrition / Dietetics. David completed his dietetic internship at Massachusetts General Hospital, the world renowned Harvard University affiliated critical care institute. He specializes in sports nutrition, fitness/weight loss and nutritional integrative medicine. He is now a permanent Gainesville resident. David, a past National Champion, is a third-degree black belt in Shito-Ryu and has been in training since 1983. He has traveled Europe extensively, training with top karate masters across the continent.

Ian Lane 

Ian is the Chairman for Katsu Dojo.  Ian holds Masters of Accounting degree from the University of Florida. He is a fourth-degree black belt in Shito-Ryu, a five-time national karate champion, and the 1997 Hayashi-Ha World Cup Champion.   Ian has been training in karate since 1984 and is a certified National Referee in the USA National Karate-Do Federation.  He has trained under many of the world’s most renowned karate masters including former USA National Team Coaching Staff and continues his training through national and international seminars. 

Nicholas De Paolo 

Nick is a third-degree black belt in Shito-Ryu and has won a gold medal at the 1997 Hayashi-Ha World Championships and is the 2000 USANKF National Open Kata Champion.  Nick has been featured on ESPN 2 to demonstrate his karate abilities.  Nick opened his own karate school in Cape Coral, Florida in April of 2003.  His new school is Martial Arts Xtreme and a sister school to Katsu Dojo.  You may visit his website at www.maxkarate.com.

Jeff Sander

Jeff is a karate instructor with Katsu Dojo. He is a second degree black belt in Shito-Ryu.  Jeff is an experienced instructor with more than 10 years of karate training.   He has studied several karate styles, including Aikido, and specializes in many of the Okinawan weapons.

Nobuko Whittaker

Nobuko is an assistant karate instructor with Katsu Dojo. She is a second-degree black belt in Shito-Ryu and has won two National Championships. Nobuko is originally from Osaka, Japan and is fluent in the Japanese language.  Nobuko, a retired pharmacist, is Katsu Dojo’s second most senior student. Nobuko has developed many of Katsu Dojo’s cultural lessons associated with karate instruction.
