Pre-Karate

Katsu Dojo's Pre-Karate classes are for children age 4 and 5.   The curriculum is specifically designed for pre-school aged children and introduces them to the basics of karate.  Children learn focus, self-control and gain self-esteem while having fun in an exciting and stimulating class.  In addition to learning basic skills like punching and kicking, children are also introduced to the Japanese language through counting, colors, and body parts.

Pre-Karate I

Pre-Karate I is a parent/child class where our 4 and 5 year old students begin. Parents participate in the class with their child, becoming their child's personal assistant instructor.  This is great opportunity for parents and their children to spend time having fun together while their child learns the basics of Karate.  Parent's participation allows the parent to track their child's progress and gives them the knowledge they need to assist their child at home.

Pre-Karate II

Pre-Karate II is designed for our Pre-Karate students that have demonstrated a working knowledge of the principles taught in Pre-Karate I and no longer require assistance from a parent.  Students in this class take the introductory techniques learned in Pre-Karate I and apply them to more advanced exercises.  After completing the Pre-Karate program, students may start in the regular beginning level karate program.

Pre-Karate Successes

Many of our Pre-Karate students have progressed to our regular karate classes with great success.  Our most successful Pre-Karate student is Matthew Tamayo.  Matthew started Pre-Karate at O2b Kids at 4 years of age and progressed rapidly.  He demonstrated great focus and technique in his Pre-Karate class and was soon selected to be a member of Team Katsu.

At five years old, Matthew won a gold medal in Kata and Kumite and a bronze medal in weapons at the 2002 USANKF National Championships in Norfolk, VA.  Since then, Matthew has continued to win gold medals at the Nationals and Junior Olympics each year.  Watch for this former Pre-Karate student to be competing in the Olympics one day.
