The best thing to wear is either sweat or jogging pants and a plain t-shirt. Please do not wear jeans, dresses, or any other clothing that is either too loose or too restrictive. Also it is best to remove all jewelry.
No. Most children under the age of 6 have a difficult time with the motor skills and focus required to handle the Beginning karate class. The Pre-Karate classes are specifically designed to teach techniques at the ability and attention level of 4 and 5 year olds. All kids age 4 and 5 must start in the Pre-Karate I class.
However, there are a few children at 4 and 5 they possess the mental and physical maturity to handle the age 6 and above karate classes. If a Pre-Karate student demonstrates superior technique and mental focus, they may be given permission by a Pre-Karate Instructor to move up to the older karate classes. We usually let kids the are enrolled in kindergarten start in Beginning Karate.
This depends on the style previously studied and current ability level. Katsu Dojo is a traditional Shito-Ryu karate school with emphasis on quality technique. Students that come from a traditional karate school and demonstrate good technique may be able to transfer into our style at an appropriate belt level.
Unfortunately there are many schools that do not insist on quality technique from their students. Students must be evaluated by one of our instructors to determine their knowledge and ability level. If this is the case for you, it is best to email Sensei Jason at karate@katsudojo.com to discuss your specific situation.
Once you decide you would like to continue with the karate program at O2B Kids, a Fun Counselor can sign your child up for membership. Please register your child online with Katsu Dojo by clicking here. Print out the waiver form, sign the bottom, and bring it to your karate instructor. We have the uniforms for sale from the karate instructor along with the option of a Beginner's Package. Please see your karate instructor for more information.
If you still have questions, you may email Sensei Jason at karate@katsudojo.com.
